Point of Interest (POI)

This support page explains how to mark important points such as toilets, elevators, or stairs in the map editor. These do not represent areas but are crucial for navigation and user convenience. You’ll learn how to add a POI, name it, assign an icon, scale it, and tag it with keywords to make searching easier.

What is a POI?
POIs (Points of Interest) are distinctive points on the map that do not represent areas but still play an important role in orientation and user convenience – such as toilets, elevators, escalators, or information desks. They help users quickly find key locations and improve navigation within a map.

How can I add a POI?
To create a POI, switch to the edit mode “Edit POIs” and click on “Add POI.” This will place a new point of interest on the map.
You can easily move the POI to the desired location using drag & drop. For further settings, click either on the gear icon (“Edit POI”) or right-click directly on the POI – this will open the editing menu with all available options.

Then, an editing window will open where you can customize the POI individually – for example, name, icon, size, or position.

The POI Settings Window in Detail

In the editing window, you can configure your POI individually to ensure it is optimally displayed and easy to find on the map. Here’s an overview of the most important options:

Name: Assign a unique name to your POI – for example, “West Elevator” or “Ladies’ Restroom Ground Floor.”

Type: Select the type of POI, such as toilet, elevator, stairs, or information. This field is required. You can create new categories using the text field to the right.

Icon: Upload the desired icon file – it will be displayed directly on the map later.

Scaling: Determine how large the icon should appear on the map. Ideal for adjusting to the map view.

Keywords: Add relevant search terms so users can more easily find the POI using the search function on the info terminal.

Display Style: Choose whether the icon should be shown flat (2D) or spatial (3D-like), depending on design preference or map context.

Display Priority: Set the zoom level at which the POI becomes visible on the map. You can choose between low, medium, and high.

After clicking “Save,” the settings will be applied.
